LEEP or Conization

Conization, which is the process of removing a part of the cervix, is applied as hot conization, called LEEP, or cold conization, which is applied with a traditional scalpel.

Unlike previous biopsy procedures, this procedure is performed under anesthesia and in an operating room.

Since it is performed under anesthesia, the patient does not feel any pain. It is a short surgery that usually requires a day hospital stay and lasts between 10 and 20 minutes.

There may be spotting for a few days after this surgery. There is no need to worry unless there is fresh bleeding that is heavier than menstrual bleeding. We recommend that you avoid sexual intercourse for 4 to 6 weeks after the surgery.

This procedure does not prevent the patient from having a future pregnancy, but it is still necessary to make a careful decision, as there are various studies reporting that it may increase the risk of premature birth during pregnancy. (You can access the detailed article in the Articles section.)
